The Racoon Rave

Well, I did say that we're 2 dummies and a RV, and we lived up to our names last night....

We "thought" our trash would be fine inside of a garbage bag inside of a garbage basket with a zipper lid. Well, we also didn't realize that raccoons have opposable thumbs, which means they can open zippers!

We woke up as any normal weekday morning, brewed some coffee, and waited for the kiddo to wake up. He went to take the dog out and immediately yelled in the oddly, extremely quiet campsite, "OUR GARBAGE IS EVERYWHERE!" We really thought he was joking...but he was not.

We quickly picked up the strewn about trash, to much of the protest of these fat squirrels. Our son jokingly said the raccoons had a rave party at our campsite! Lol! There were a ton of tiny paw prints everywhere!

We know feeding wild animals often can cause nuisance ones, so it was amusing to see these fat squirrels literally oversee our clean up to ensure they get dibs in the event we dropped any scraps for them.

Lesson learned for sure! Next time, we're not leaving any sort of garbage items out for the critters to raid. I can only imagine if we need to guard our dinner when we smoke some meat on the grill! Yikes!
